D76-A/B/C/D     DB SCHENKER 67018 £9.99/£8.99/£5.99

On January 16th 2010, Class 67 engine number 67018 entered traffic as "Keith Heller", repainted in a bright red with DB Schenker brandings. The largest modern freight haulage operation in the UK was honouring their retiring Chief Executive, also CEO of the former English Welsh & Scottish Railways (EWS), taken over by DBS in 2007. This was the fifth named engine to receive the new corporate logos, this one also adorned with a large maple leaf design in a nod to the Canadian heritage involved. Some observers have said the red paint seems to be lighter than other earlier re-painted engines, Canadian Pacific Red has been suggested as the scheme, but this may all be a trick of the light.

The first UK engine to receive the DB Schenker logo was 60074, a blue livery dedicated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, named "Teenage Spirit" - for decals see our D15-* packs. The next named engine, in the standard red and grey livery, the subject of our D64-* decals: 60040 "The Territorial Army Centenary". While the third, 59206 "John F. Yeoman Rail Pioneer", features in our D65-* packs. The fourth, "St. Blazey T&RS Depot" 37670, is the subject of our D74-* packs. The latest to be named, after some time in traffic, was "Derek Holmes Railway Operator" 66152 - featured in more of our D65-* packs.

Here we present all the special details that you will need to recreate 67018 in OO-scale 4mm or 2mm N-gauge forms. Each pack contains a spare of everything:
  • There are separate packs for filmless solebar high-visibilty grey lining,
  • The main logo packs include mirror chrome silver filmless nameplates,
  • Side numbers, DB Schenker and maple leaf logos, in white,
  • Data panels and solebar signage markings also in white,
  • Nose end coupling notice and numbers in black,
  • Nose end "DB" logo in red and white,
  • Silver metallic air conditioning grills.
To complete a OO-scale 4mm model, you will probably also want a set of our separate Class 67 nose air-horn grills, available earlier as pack D67 - see the bottom of the Liveries section page for these "Other Items". For the 2mm N-gauge models, we have included grills in the D76-A pack here.

In either scale, don't forget we also make overhead warning flash decal options: see D3-*.

As usual we have traced real photos of the engine, ensuring that we faithfully reproduce the precise shapes and thicknesses of the designs. Compared with the earlier DB Schenker logo appearances, these are different again, as well as being much larger. The engine numbers hark back to BR green diesel D-number fonts. The maple leaf familiar but unique.

DBS 67018 By Dominic Rossi

Dominic Rossi used our D76-C, D76-D, D67 and D3-B decals to make the above.
Andrew Walshaw was first though, painting all his own lines, but still here needing
the TDM cables with some fine black cotton to be stuck on the noses. Both used the
standard DB Shenker red paint, as on the 37, 59 and 66 re-paints.

For best results over the ribs on Class 67 models, follow these steps:
  • Prepare your painted donor model,
  • Gloss with Johnson's Klear floor polish to ensure a good base for the decals,
  • Apply more Johnson's Klear or use Microscale MicroSet to act as wet glue,
  • Roughly cut out the decals, soak and slide into place, press down with a sponge,
  • Apply Microscale MicroSol decal softening solution to help bed down in the ridges,
  • When dry, coat with Johnson's Klear or Microscale MicroSet to seal the decals,
  • Finish with satin varnish - built up in fine mist layers to avoid shrinkage.
