FIRST/EUROPORTE GBRF 66/7
| £19.99-£6.99 |
GB Railfreight was formed in July 1999, ordering some modern Class 66 engines that were delivered at the start of 2001, painted in a blue and orange livery with large "GBRf" lettering and in most cases side numbers in orange. Most of the engines were named with orange coloured plates.
A merger with First Group was approved at the end of September 2003, forming First GBRf, which meant blue "First" logos were added to many engines, while others were repainted in all over plain blue with a different style of white side markings and First magenta and white curves.
In June 2010, EuroPorte acquired GBRf, and 66710 became the first engine to carry a new logo branding when named "Phil Packer" in October 2010 - this time with red backed nameplates, retaining the original style of orange side markings over a blue central panel. By January 2011 a new livery appeared on 66731, featuring the same new logos as on 66710 and continuing the logo pattern in a larger scale on the sides - red and blue arcs at rounded ends of new blue lozenge design for the side, with lettering in the thinner font previously used for white marked GBRf engines. In February 2011, 66729 was also painted in what will probably become the standard livery across the fleet, retaining its "Derby County" football names. 66742 was newly named "ABP Port of Immingham Centenary 1912-2012". Three Dutch grey imports were branded in the same style of orange characters at the start of 2014. A further special variation in August 2011 was 66720, being adorned with a child's paintings.
GBRf took delivery of the last Class 66 to be built for Britain, painted in orange-black-orange lined B.R. Brunswick green in tribute to the last steam engine built for British Railways. Numbered 66779, also named "Evening Star" on 10th May 2016 at the National Railway Museum in York by Billy Ainsworth, Chief Executive Officer of Progress Rail Services and Electro-Motive Diesel.
In October 2016 GBRf was sold to Hector Rail, Sweden's largest Freight operator, and they embarked on a series of special liveried engines, changing the logo to remove the Europorte brandings. In July 2017 66775 was named as "HMS Argyll" F231, followed by a few months later by 66725 "Sunderland" and then in February 2018 66789 "British Rail 198-1997" in a tribute to Large Logo BR Blue livery. We were asked to produce decals for each of the presentation models at the naming ceremonies.

Several ready to run models have been released, in OO 4mm from Lima, Hornby and Bachmann, with Graham Farish for 2mm N-gauge, and even Aristocraft for garden scale. 32-727 was Bachmann's OO scale model of 66710. A suitable kit is also available for 7mm O-gauge from PRMRP. Numbering decals, with plain GBRf logos for a pre-merger livery, have been available from Fox Transfers for some time. Etched nameplates with some intricate details are available from both Fox and Shawplan.
On close comparison of some real photographs with several models, we found that none of them have actually been spot on for the "GBRf" logo, evidently using a similar but not fully matching font. Our decals were as usual produced by tracing scaled real images for pixel-perfect reproductions.
Our decal packs include a spare of each detail, including as appropriate:
- Large orange "GBRf" logo and side numbers,
- Black nose end numbers,
- Yellow backed data panels,
- Blue First "F" and logos for cab side and nose end GB Railfreight, or
- Red/Blue circle GBRf EuroPorte style logos for cabs and ends,
- 1A shed plate as on some engines.
See also our decal packs D3-* for generic overhead flash sticker decals.

When EuroPorte took over GBRf, 66710 had a new logo branding applied to the above original style livery - keeping the same large side "GBRf" and numbers, just replacing the First logos with EuroPorte style ones.

January 2011 saw EuroPorte introduce a new livery variation with 66731, followed by 66729 in February. The same new logos as first used on 66710, but now with an orange version of the finer white GBRf lettering and numbers seen earlier on the all-over First blue livery, plus arcs of red and blue at the rounded ends of central blue lozenge design.

In August 2011, 66720 was given a unique livery adorned with a child's paintings -
Whitemoor-based yard shift leader Ben Goodman's daughter designed
a setting of "night" for one side and "day" for the other.

66720 "GB Railfreight" / "PART OF EUROPORTE" Logos & Lettering
You'll need a middle-door low emissions GBRf orange livery donor
for hand-painting of the central paintings. Remove existing cab numbers
before adding our decals for the cab areas and "GBRf" orange letters.

For best results with ribbed Class 66 models, the steps to follow in applying decals are:
- Take a painted donor model with printed numbers removed,
- Gloss with Johnson's Klear floor polish to ensure a good base for the decals,
- Apply more Johnson's Klear or use Microscale MicroSet to act as wet glue,
- Roughly cut out the decals, soak and slide into place, press down with a sponge,
- Apply Microscale MicroSol decal softening solution to help bed down in the ridges,
- When dry, coat with Johnson's Klear or Microscale MicroSet to seal the decals,
- Finish with satin varnish - built up in fine mist layers to avoid shrinkage.
Note we do not produce decals for 66705 "Golden Jubilee" - the subject of several ready to run releases
and uniquely with a large Union Jack flag on the side, smaller "GBRf" and tiny black side numbers.
66709 carries a unique MEDITE livery which is nothing like these decals.
Our First GBRf for 66710 EuroPorte branded style decals could also be printed as a custom order
to re-number a 1:29th G-scale Aristocraft model - please Contact Us for a price quote.
