WREXHAM & SHROPSHIRE MK3 DECALS
| £5.99/£9.99/£12.99 |
The Wrexham, Shropshire & Marylebone Railway company ran services from April 28th, 2008, to January 28th, 2011. Initially pairs of Class 67 engines would be used until Mk3 DVTs were available to replace one of the engines. Trains were mostly made up with two TSOs and a Buffet car - one additional declassified FO was used on the launch day in an unbranded rake, and four coaches trains became the norm during the last few months of operations. The first DVT began testing at the end of September 2008, during October of that year, 82301 and 82305 were put in to proper use. Mark Riley recorded an excellent visual history of the services which we have linked to below.
At first rented rail blue and grey Mk3 coaches were used in between pairs of Class 67 engines, with an all-white version of the "Wrexham & Shropshire" corporate logo applied to the coaches run between engines 67013 and 67015.

Mk3 coaches in the company's own silver and grey livery didn't enter service until September 2009. Initially they carried brandings with "&", web address and coach letter markings in a shade of silver grey not greatly different to the coach body colour:

At the end of 2009, the colour of the hard to see markings started to be darkened to match the gun-metal grey used around the windows:

Dapol produced N-gauge train packs in the all silver corporate livery based on the company diagrams. However, this was long before the real thing appeared and has proved that it's generally better to wait for the real thing before trying to model it. The real version doesn't have black ink for the web site address and numbers, plus the style of coach letter markers is completely different. Graham Farish also make Mk3 coaches and they have a slightly different Mk4 type DVT model for N-gauge.
For OO scale, Hornby announced for 2010 a new Mk3 DVT to be released with a Class 67 engine in the W&S silver livery, with the early blue/grey Mk3s to follow in a separate pack. Previously only the slightly different Mk4 DVT was available for OO modellers, our DVT decals are scaled to fit that in the correct proportions. Mk3 coaches have been produced in 4mm by Hornby, Lima and Joueff - all ideal for conversion to the new silver livery.
For 4mm OO and 2mm N-gauge, we have modelled the different forms of the details for both the original blue-grey livery trains and the silver corporate livery. Printed on clear film waterslide transfer media, complete modern train coach logo sets with a spare pair in each pack. We were supplied with official images of the logo, which we used to assist in the accurate reproduction of the real details manipulated from actual photographs.
Geoff Dickens completed the model shown below:
